CONSTITUTION:A compression amplifier CA having a logarithmic compression characteristics, for example, is inserted in the output side of the receiving amplifier RA in the receiving system. The received signal is suppressed in its level variation and fed in the peak detector PD, which generates output corresponding to the peak value. The calculator circuit AC, controlled by this output, provides output corresponding to the distance to the object to be determined.
