Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the deivce simple, samll in size and of high coupling and low loss by combining half-cylindrical type optical transmission bodies which have been applied with full reflecting films on the specified faces and whose refractive index change and length include the specified central axis and changing over the optical paths of the optical fibers making contact with their end faces. CONSTITUTION:The semi-circular type optical transmission bodies 1, 2 whose refractive indices gradually decrease from the center toward the perphery within the section perpendicular to the central axis, whose lengths are nearly (2N-1)/4 with respect to the zigzagperiods of light, where N is positive integer, and which are provided with total reflecting films 4, 5 on one end face perpendicular to the central axis are combined by way of the total reflecting film 3 applied on the cut face of the transmission body 2. Optical fibers 6 thru 8 which are arrayed symmetrically to the central axis are contacted to the other end face of this combination including the central axis and if the combination of the transmission bodies 1, 2 is rotated with the central axis as axis, the incidence and exit routes by the fibers 6 thru 8 change and the device for multiple optical path changing which is simple, small in size and of high coupling and low loss is provided.
