Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect fallen bottles irrespective of the number of rows of the bottles being carried by detecting the fallen bottles through the surface reflection of the drum portions thereof. CONSTITUTION:A horizontal beam 7 is arranged at a right angle with respect to the conveying direction of a conveyor 6 by which a number of rows of bottles 17 and 17a are conveyed. A supporting member 11 is supported in a reciprocal manner within the guide groove 8 of the horizontal beam 7. The aforementioned supporting member 11, to which are attached a projector and a receiver 16, is moved back and forth at a right angle with respect to the conveyor 6 and is illuminated by the projector 15. The projector 15 and the receiver 16 are arranged such that the uppermost point of the drum portion of the fallen bottle is used as a reflecting point 18 and that the angle of projection theta1 and the angle of reflection theta2 become equal. When the light projected from the projector 15 hits a portion other than the point 18, the quantity of the light to enter the receiver 16 is reduced because the height of the reflection is different. On the contrary, for the fallen bottle, the quantity of the light to enter the receiver 16 is not reduced so that the fallen bottle can be detected.
