Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the plating efficiency of the electric mangenese plating bath and the safety of the bath by adding the specific amount of thiourea to the plating bath containing the specified amounts of Mn2+ source and ammonium salt.
CONSTITUTION: Thiourea is added at 0.1W40g/l to an aqueous solution containing 10W120g/l of mangenese sulfate or the like as Mn2+ and 20W250g/l of one or both of ammonium chloride and ammonium sulfate. Electroplating is applied to steel plates or the like by using this manganese plating bath and suitably selecting current density, stirring conditions, etc. This plating bath is stable, is easy to control the plating bath composition and lets plating metal be efficiently deposited. Since materials which are difficult in waste liquid treatment are not contained, discarding is easy.
