Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform corrosion preventive treatment of less dimensional changes by treating a magnesium alloy with an aqueous soln. of specific pH contg. specific ratios of a dichromic acid and sulfate of magnesium and/or aluminum.
CONSTITUTION: Water is added to 20W50g sodium dichromate and 20W50g magnesium sulfate and/or aluminum sulfate to make 1l, and its pH is maintained at 4.2W 5.8. If the magnesium sulfate alone, it is added at 60g/l. This treating liquid 3 is put into an iron cell 2, and a magnesium alloy part 1 having undergone pretreatment is immersed therein; at the same time, the alloy 1 and the cell 2 are connected by a resistance 5 to an ammeter 4. The resistance 5 is so controlled that the part 1 has 0.1W1.5A/dm2 electric current densities per surface area thereof, and the bath temp. is kept at about 45W80°C. Thereby, electric current is flowed between the alloy 1 and the cell 2, and the corrosion preventive treatment for improving corrosion resistance is accomplished.
