Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an alkali (earth) metal hydroxide and S in high yields by reacting MnO(OH)2-base manganese hydroxide and waste liquor contg. an alkali (earth) metal sulfide, etc. discharged in production of inorg. chemicals such as Ba salt or refining of pertoleum.
CONSTITUTION: To an aq. soln. contg. an alkali (earth) metal hydrosulfide,-polysulfide and -sulfide is added MnO(OH)2-base manganese hydroxide in an amt. of 2 mols or more, pref. 2.5W3 mols as MnO(OH)2 per mol of sulfide, and they are reacted. An alkali (earth) metal hydroxide such as NaOH is separated from the reaction product by filtration. By adding sulfuric acid to the precipitates the Mn cpd. is dissolved to precipitation-separate S, and NaOH is added to the soln. to form manganese hydroxide, which is then aeration-oxidized with air or the like. Thus, MnO(OH)2-base manganese hydroxide is regenerated and recycled.
