Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily produce the optical fiber containing metal fibers by heating the fiber base material of hollow pipe form at different temperatures from the inside and outside and spinning the same as a composite fiber together with the molten metal being extruded from nozzles disposed in a pipe.
CONSTITUTION: A fiber base material 53 (high purity quartz glass) of hollow pipe form is disposed in the protecting pipe 52 disposed with a high-frequency induction oil 51 on the outer side and nozzle-form heating elements 55 which extrude molten metal 54 are installed in the hollow part of said base material 53. Next, the fiber base material 3 is heated at the temperatures differing with the inside and outside and is spun together with the molten metal (optical fibers 3) being discharged from the nozzle-form heating elements 53 and given the specified spacing by a guide 56, whereby the metal-fiber-containing optical fiber which is composed of core glass 10 and clad glass 20 and is communicated with the metal fibers 3 near the boundary portions of both is obtained.
