Abstract

PURPOSE:To change rolls safely in a short time with a small space by changing an upper backup roll through the utilization of changing of the upper and lower work rolls then independently changing the lower back roll. CONSTITUTION:At the time of pulling the upper and lower work rolls from the housing, a truck 26 is placed on a side shifter 14 and the old work unit is moved laterally, in place of which the truck 26 is aligned to the center of the rolling mill. This truck 26 is pushed into the housing and the upper back roll unit II is placed on the truck 26 and pulled from the housing. The truck 26 placed with a new work roll unit III in place of the old work roll unit is aligned to the center of the rolling mill and is pushed into the housing. Next, the lower backup roll 2 is independently changed. This method lets the roll changing work be accomplished in a stable state.
