Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the rearrangement of the backup roll even though the rolled material is still existing in the rolling mill, by employing a peculiarly shaped jig at the rearrangement of the backup roll of the multistage rolling mill.
CONSTITUTION: The connector 193 connects the upper portion 191 and the lower portion 192 for supporting the upper and lower backup rolls assembly; and the jig 19 is prepared so as to provide the intermediate groove 194, circular arc groove 191a, 192a, and the positioning protuberance 195, 196. When the backup roll is to be rearranged, the upper and lower work roll 6, 8, are pulled away and the lower backup roll chock 5 is brought down so as to place its wheel 13 on the rail 14, and then, the lower backup roll assembly is taken out of the mill housing 1. Outside of the housing 1 the jig 19 is placed on the lower backup roll chock 5, and again the lower backup roll asembly is taken into the housing 1. After the upper backup roll assemnly is taken out of the housing 1. since the upper portion 191 is separated from the lower portion 192 by the horizontal groove 194, even though the rolled material W is existing in the mill, the material W does not interface with the jig 19 and the rearrangement of backup roll can be carried out.
