Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the dispersion stability of the toner and improve developing characteristic and durability by using the carbon black or organic pigments covered with metal oxides on the coloring agent main components of the toner.
CONSTITUTION: Carbon black or organic pigments are dispersed in an aqueous solution of sulfates, hydroxides, etc. of metals and are made neutral or weak alkaline, whereby the soft core cellulated layers of hydroxides or hydrates of metals are formed around pigment particles. Next, these are gradually dried and solidified at 100W200°C, whereby the metal oxide coated pigments are obtained. These coated pigments are dispersed in an organic solvent (petroleum base aliphatic hydrocarbon, etc.) of high electric resistance and low dielectric factor to obtain the liquid developer. The coated pigments obtained in this way have good dispersibility and high resistance, prevent fining of the toner and become suited to provide the images of high density. The thickness of the oxide layer is suitably about 0.1W0.05μ and the amount is about 0.1W5wt% based on the weight of the pigments.
