Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the subject method comprising the steps of : elongating an unburnt polytetrafluoroethylene resin rodsor the like to give a large number of fine bubbles, thereafter heating the same to a specific temperature, passing a draw die to reduce the sectional area thereby to obtain a flange joint sealing meterial of good workability. CONSTITUTION:An unburnt polytetrafluoroethylene resin rod or tube is elongated in the longitudinal direction 300% or more, preferably in the range of from 800- 1500% to give the rod a large number of fine bubbles to form a structure affluent in softness. Then, the rod is passed through a furnace heated to a temperature above 327 deg.C, preferably 400 deg.C, to burn the outer peripheral surface of the rod and to heat the inner part thereof as it is left in an unburnt state. Before the rod is cooled to the room temperature, it is passed through the draw die to reduce the sectional area of the rod or to form a deformed section, whereby to obtain the desired sealing material.
