Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve the improvement in the workability of optical axis alignment and the simplification of the connection of multipair cables by providing a ferromagnetic material film on the circumferential surfaces of the cores of optical fibers and magnetizing the end faces of the opposing optical fibers to mutually different polarities. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic material film 8 is provided on the core surface of optical fibers 2 and is so magnetized as to form magnetic poles of difference codes on the opposing face P3, face P4, then attraction is generated at both ends having the abovementioned faces P3, P4, and the self-matching function may be provided in the optical axis alignment through balancing of the deflection quantity of the optical fibers and inter-magnetic-pole attraction. The ferromagnetic material film 8 may be formed on the core surface by a sputter method, chemical plating method, coating method, etc. The self-matching function at the time of otical fiber and optical axis alignment by this ferromagnetic material film enables deviation quantity to be reduced considerably and enables the multipair optical fiber cable connector of low losses and low cost to be readily obtained.
