Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a dried leaf which can be stored for a long time, and useful as a decoration of foods, pacakging material, and a vase mat, etc., by placing a raw leaf of a tree or a grass between a pair of open cell foamed flexible plastic sheets, keeping the leaf under pressure at a definite temperature for a definite time interval, and dehumidifying under air flow.
CONSTITUTION: A number of raw leaves of a tree or grass (e.g. leaves of Magnolia hypoleuca) are palced on the upper face of an open cell foamed flexible plastic sheet, e.g. a thick urethane foam sheet 2. The leaves are covered with a thin urethane foam sheet 3. The procedures are repeated to obatin a stack shown in the figure, and the stack is placed on a metal net 4. A metal net 5 is placed on the top thin urethane foam sheet 3, and the stack is pressed. The stack 4 is brought into a dehumidifying chamber, and dried at 22±3°C for 12W120 hours under air flow to obtain the objective dried leaves. The dried leaves thus obtained can be reconstituted to the fresh leaves only by immersing in water, and can be used at any senson of the year.
