Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to detect the axially elongated flaw at a high speed by providing a plurality of locating coils, which are eccentric from the axis of a rod- shaped metal to be tested, and by detecting the signal differences between the respective coils.
CONSTITUTION: There are arranged around a material 1 to be tested three locating coils 6W8 which are spaced at a distance l in the axial direction with eccentricity of 120 degrees from one another. These coils 6W8 generate signals SA, SB and SC for the regions AWC which are divided from the surface of the material 1 by 120 degrees. Two of those signals are fed to three differential amplifiers 9, the outputs of which are fed to an adder 10. The outputs of those amplifiers 9 are the compared outputs of the three portions which are axially separated by the distance l and circumferentially by the angle 120 degrees and are processed by a processor 11. Thus, the axially elongated flaw in the test piece can be detected at a high speed.
