Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate the kinds of defects by obtaining parameters indicating the directivity of surface defects and parameters indicating the sharpness of the surface defects in the longitudinal and transverse directions. CONSTITUTION:A defect image is formed in an image pickup part 5 by an optical system 4 and is converted to an electric signal, which is then sent to a signal processing part 6. In the signal processing part 6, it undergoes necessary preprocessing such as mean value, trend removal, etc. for the defect image information, after which two-dimensional frequency analysis processing and the area and length calculation processing of the defect are parallel accomplished. The outputs 13 of the signal processing part 6 are the four parameters based on the two dimensinoal frequency component distribution pattern and the three parameters based on the area and length calculation techniques.
