PURPOSE:To easily and accurately confirm the unevenness generated on an object to be examined with stereoscopic feeling, by detecting the distance between each spot and an image sensing means from an imagewise sensed spot beam pattern on the basis of parallax and applying brightness emphasizing processing to the imagewise sensed spot beam pattern corresponding to the detected distance. CONSTITUTION:The distance between each spot in a spot beam pattern and a solid- state image sensing element 8 being an observation point is detected. After the distance is detected, emphasis coefficient A(Z) being the reciprocal of said distance Zalphah is calculated in a brightness emphasizing part 14. The corresponding brightness signal Y of each spot is multiplied by the emphasis coefficient A(Z) and brightness emphasizing processing is applied so that brightness becomes larger as the distance Zalphah becomes shorter. Interpolation is performed with respect to a pixel to which no spot beam is incident on the basis of adjacent distance data by a pixel interpolation part 15 and the image of the spot beam pattern is displayed on a monitor 16. By this method, the unevenness generated on an object to be examined is easily and accurately confirmed from the image of the spot beam pattern displayed on the monitor 16 with stereoscopic feeling.
