Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare roughage having excellent palatability and digestibility, by moistening rice hulls with water or an alkaline solution, and crushing and fermenting the treated hulls.
CONSTITUTION: Rice hulls A are stored in a bin 1, and water or an alkaline solution B is stored in a tank 4. The rice hulls are mixed with the water or the alkaline solution supplied through a pump 5 and a water supply 6 in a mixing zone, and the mixture is sent to a crusher 7. The crusher is composed of a casing 10, a crushing table 13, and a pair of crushing rolls which are traversed along a circular orbit on the crushing table by the force transmitted through a pulley 15. The moistened hulls are crushed by the compression and shearing forces between the table and the rolls, stored in a closed vessel via a storage bin 8, and fermented to the objective roughage.
