Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method of manufacturing boom for use in hydraulic shovel, according to which a hole for inserting the arm cylinder boss therein, having a sufficient size for absorbing distortion caused by welding, is prefabricated in each of the right and left webs, whereby welding procedures can be carried out with ease and thus construction work in use of the same can be carried out efficiently.
CONSTITUTION: In each of right and left webs 4, 3, there is prefabricated a hole 11 for receiving therein arm cylinder boss 7, which has a size sufficient for absorbing the thermal distortion caused by welding. Two partition plates 8, 8 are welded to the inside of webs 3, 4 with upper flange 1 being fixed to the webs 3, 4, and then lower flange 2 is welded to the webs 3, 4, thereby forming an enclosed box. Thereafter, partition plates 8, 8 and lower flange 2 are welded together by inserting a welding torch through holes 11, 11. After the boss fixing position has been determined by centering the same with suitable means, right and left fixing plates 6, 5 are fitted on boss 7 at the position where they are held in contact with the outer surface of respective webs 4, 3. Then, these plates 5, 6 are fixed to boss 7 and webs 3, 4 by way of welding.
