Abstract
PURPOSE:To protect a suction air probe and minimize its characteristic fluctuation, by fitting a backfire shock absorber and surge tank in a suction system equipped with the probe made of temperature compensator for checking suction air into an engine. CONSTITUTION:Air taken in an engine 1 passes through a conduit pipe 10, air cleaners 8, 9, probe 7, backfire shock absorber 13, surge tank 11, throttle valve 4 and suction manihold 2. A rectifying unit upstream of the probe equalizes the distribution of air speed. The shock absorber 13 is made of wire netting or a stack of plates. The mechanical strength of the probe is reduced by reducing the thermal inertial for improving its measuring accuracy, but its failure can be prevented because of the reduced pulsation of suction air due to the surge tank 11.
