Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a fluorescent material having short afterglow and strong fluorescent intensity, and useful as a fluorescent face of a flying spot tube, by quenching a composition of Zn, Cd, S, Ce, and alkali metals from the calcining temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A fluorescent material composed of (ZnCd)S:CeM (M is alkali metal) is quenched from the calcining temperature of 900W1170°C. For example, 35grams of high purity zinc sulfide is added with an aqueous solution containing 10.2mg of 99.99% Ce2(SO4)3 and 1.52mg of 99.99% LiCl; the mixture is dried at 120°C for 5 hours; 350mg of 99.999% sulfur is added to the mixture; the composition thus prepared is charged in a quartz tube 1; 10grams of granular activated charcoal is put on the composition; a quartz cover glass 4 is placed on the top of the tube 1; the tube] is inserted in a vertical over heated at 1000°C; and after calcining for 2 hours, the quartz tube 1 is immersed in water.
