Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a low m.p sealing compsn. of low expansibility suitable for use in sealing an IC package, etc. and consisting of tin oxide-coated β-eucryptite powder and low m.p. glass having a specified transition point and a specified linear expansion coefficient.
CONSTITUTION: β-Eucryptite powder with an average diameter of about 20μ and tin octylate are mixed and heat treated to form a below 0.8μ thick tin oxide film on the eucryptite powder surface. 30% or less of the film-coated powder is then mixed with 70% or more of low m.p. glass having a transition point of 250W400°C and a linear expansion coefficient of 80W130×10-7/°C at 30W250°C. The mixt. is heated until fluidity is provided, and it is cooled to produce a sealing compsn. of low expansibility. The above low m.p. glass contains 70% or more in total of PbO and B2O3, and e.g., consists of PbO 78%, B2O3 16%, SiO2 3% and Al2O3 3%.
