Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the controlled atmosphere through decomposition of organic solvents, lower decarbonization and enable lubricity at the forging to be improved by impregnating and coating the organic solvent suspension of solid lubricants to powder molding or sintered body and heating the same under inert gas atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: The liquid comprising suspending solid lubricants such as colloidal graphite, etc. in a 1W10% organic solvent is impregnated in or coated on powder metal molding or sintered body of 10W17% in voids. The organic solvent is selected from methanol, isopropanol and methyl acetate. After the impregnation or coating, it is immediately heated in an inert gas atmosphere such as of nitrogen to let the organic solvent decompose thermally and allow CO, H2 and free carbon to form, whereby the preform is obtained under the controlled atmosphere. This is put in dies and forged.
