Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a spinning solution economically, by aqueous suspension polymerization of monomers consisting mainly of acrylonitrile in a system compnising a specific amount of water, with an specific equivalent ratio of the reducing to the oxidizing agents, and an electrolyte concentration, to give an easily filtered, dehydrated and dried polymer, which is dehydrated and dissolved in a solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A composition comprising 85wt.% or more of acrylonitrile and 15wt.% or less of other monomers is continuously polymerized in a system, wherein the weight ratio of water to the monomers is ≤3.5, and the equivalent ratio of the reducing to the oxidizing agents is 1.0W12.0, the electrolyte concentration being ≤0.12mol/l. The resulting polymer is filtered under a pressure difference of ≤ 1.1kg/cm2, or centrifuged with a centrifugal force ≤1,000g to give a moisture content of 10W100wt.% on the dry basis, and dissolved in dimethylformamide or dimethylacetamide to form a spinning solution.
