Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a good operation of shaft seal even under the condition of high speed and high pressure, in the mechanical seal, where a circulation quantity of the fluid is limited in the meeting surface of faces not parallel with respect to the line of shaft that relatively rotates.

CONSTITUTION: To the end part of a casing 1, through which a shaft 3 penetrates extending, is fixed a cover 2, and to inner circumference of the cover 2 is engaged a seal ring 4 through a packing 5, 6. And to the shaft 3 is axially movably engaged a seal ring 11 through a packing 12, simultaneously with a stopper ring 13 engaged and secured. In a location between the stopper ring 13 and the seal ring 11, is intermediately placed a spring 14 with its elastically energizing force heightening a contact pressure in the meeting surface S. Now with the shaft 3 if rotated, a face 15 of the ring 11 rotates with a face 8 of the ring 4 not rotating, and a radial groove 17 increases a fluidic energy in the groove by the centrifugal force, with the fluid flowing into the groove 7 through a concaved groove 16, hole 19, tube 20 and hole 10, and made returning to the above described concaved groove 16 from a hole 9.
