Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce activated carbon fiber with enhanced adsorption performance in a high yield by impregnating vegetable fiber with a soln. contg. zinc chloride and one or more out of NH4Cl, boric acid and nitric acid followed by carbonization and activation.
CONSTITUTION: A soln., e.g. an aq. soln. is prepared contg. about 5W40, esp. about 10W30 wt% of zinc chloride and about 0.5W25, esp. about 2W20 wt% of one or more out of NH4Cl, boric acid and nitric acid. Vegetable fiber is impregnated with the soln., carbonized at about 400W750, esp. about 450W650°C, activated optionally washed, and dried to obtain activated carbon fiber. The vegetable fiber may be kapok or bast fiber, and the fiber is impregnated with about 5W60 wt% of zinc chloride, about 5W25 wt% of NH4Cl, about 0.1W10 wt% of boric acid and about 0.1W10 wt% of nitric acid.
