Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve capability of adsorbing nitric oxide of active carbon fibers, by dispersing hydroxides of copper, hydroxides of nickel, oxides of copper, oxides of nickel etc. over the surface of active carbon fibers. CONSTITUTION:Active carbon fibers having capability of adsorbing nitric oxide are formed by dispersing one kind of compound selected from a group of hydroxides of copper, oxides of copper, hydroxides of nickel, oxides of nickel, hydroxides of cobalt over the surface of active carbon fibers. The active carbon fibers are dipped into, for example, an aqueous solution of copper sulfate- ammonia, to which an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide is added and said fibers, having been held for specified period of time, are dried to obtain active carbon fibers with hydroxides of copper being dispersed over their surfaces. By applying further thermal decomposition treatment to said fibers after they have been dried, active carbon fibers with oxides of copper being dispersed over their surfaces can be obtained.
