Abstract
PURPOSE:To branch light only when it is the input light from the specified direction and enable transmission defining to be accuraly accomplished by so forming the isolator that it has an optical guide and the optical guide branched from this and the branch optical guide is absorbed. CONSTITUTION:The first optical guide 1 and the second optical guide 2 (called branch optical guide) branched from this are provided. The left of the optical guide 1 is the input end P1 and the right the output end P2. One end of the branch optical guide 2 is the non-reflecting absorption end P3 which takes matching of refractive indices so as not to allow light to reflect. The light entering from the input end P1 is mostly fetched out to the output end P2 and the loss of light power is small. The light entering from output end P2 is branched to the input end P1 and absorption end P3 and its conversion to radiation mode is large and the light power obtainable at the input end P1 is less than 1/2 the initial one. Namely, with this structure the losses are low in the transmission direction of light and are high in the opposite direction and therefore the transmission defining as an isolator is accurately accomplished.
