Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a transfer product of fresh color tone and high rigidity by laying one upon another a transfer sheet having a specified pattern layer and an overcoat layer thereon and a substrate onto which the pattern is to be transferred and then heating the assembly under pressure.
CONSTITUTION: A substrate sheet is covered with a pattern layer including one molar equivalent of a colorant which is relatively free from fusion, evaporation, sublimation, and the like due to heat and has relatively small tendency of thermal transfer onto other substrate, 0.1 to 20 molar equivalent of an alkali agent which will enhance the thermal transfer property of the colorant, and a binder. An overcoat layer including the alkali agent and a binder is formed on the whole surface including the pattern layer, to form a transfer sheet. This transfer sheet is laid on a substrate (e.g. leather, synthetic resin film) onto which the pattern is to be transferred, and the assembly is heated to a temperature of 80 to 250°C for 30 to 90 seconds under a pressure of 0.05 to 20 kg/cm2. Then the substrate sheed is stripped off, to transfer the colorant in the pattern layer to the substrate onto which the pattern is to be transferred, and steam heating or acid-steam heating is conducted.
