Abstract

PURPOSE: To color the surface of stainless steel, by turning current using stainless steel as anode and forming anode oxidation film in water solution using NaOH as basic agent.
CONSTITUTION: Stainless steel is treated with alkaline fat removing liquid and diluted hydrochloric acid as pretreatment and fat is removed. Then, the above steel is washed and is activated. Next, electrolyte is made by about 40% of NaOH water solution heating at 30W125°C and electrolytic treatment is carried out for 1W 200 minutes using stainless steel as anode under 0.001W10A/cm2 of current density. On this occasion, stainless steel or iron material is used for cathode. Oxidation film is formed on the anode stainless steel by carrying out anode oxidation and various color tone is able to obtain by its thickness. Colored film superior in anticorrosive property is obtained without using chromium compound or permanganate compound accompanied by environmental pollution as usual.
