Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide safe, leak free, high current efficiency operation in alkaki metal chloride electrolysis, cylindrical diaphragm with both sides flared is used and flares are fixed to the peripheral of cathode by use of fixture and flange. CONSTITUTION:Diaphragm is generally installed between both electrodes in electrolytic bath for providing Cl2 and NaOH from saline water. The diaphragm 2 is shaped into cylindrical form and both sides are flared 1. Openig 4 is made on diaphragm fixing frame 3, and flange 5 for the flare 1 is attached to the edge of the opening 4. Diaphragm flare 1, fixture 7, and packing are attached to the flange 5 by tightening with bolts through bolt holes 6. Cathode is inserted in the cylindrical diaphragm 2 and electrolysis is performed. Since electrolyte is prevented from explosion due to mixing of H2 from the cathode in the cylindrical diaphragm and Cl2 from the anode.
