Abstract

Electrolytic electrode which has a hydrogen overvoltage-reducing coating essentially consisting of an alloy from iron, cobalt and/or nickel with tin, the percentage of tin of the alloy being between 0.01 and 10 per cent by weight. The electrode can advantageously be manufactured by accomplishing said coating galvanically or by a thermal spraying method. The electrode is especially well suited for use as cathode for hydrogen evolution in chlorate, chlorine-alkali or water electrolysis or as an anode in an hydrogen-oxygen or hydrogen-air fuel cell.
