Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a water layer, acting as an acoustic transmission medium thereby to improve the acoustic coupling by injecting water from a slit, which is formed over the whole circumference of a rotary locating holder rotating at a high speed, thereby to seal the gap out of water.
CONSTITUTION: The water from a water supply hole 9 formed in an irrotational water supply unit 6 is fed through a small hole of a friction plate 7 from the hole 18 of a rotational contact holder 2 into an annular groove 19 at the opposite side. Water is introduced into the slits 20 and 21, which are formed at an inclination inside of the holder 2, but are formed over the whole circumference. By this action, the inside of the holder 2 is sealed at its inner and outer sides by the injection so that it is hold as a water layer having a suitable thickness by the centrifugal force. Thus, the water acting as the propagation medium of ultrasonic waves can be effectively held against the centrifugal force thereby to improve the acoustic coupling.
