Ultraviolet absorption spectrum of aqueous solution; only terminal absorption in the region between 220 and 360nm. Ninhydrin reaction, positive; potassium permanganate reaction, positive; Elson-Morgan's reaction, positive; biuret reaction, negative.
USE: Antibacterials against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (effective against bacteria of the genus Proteus, and resistant bacteria producing amino glycoside-3'-phosphatase, and aminoglycoside-6'-acetyl esterase).
PROCESS: UAA-3 producing bacteria which belong to the genus Micromonospora, e.g. Micromonospora sagamiensis UAA-3, are cultured in a nutrient medium, and the desired UAA-3 is collected from the culture.
