Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable small-diameter tubes of good surface finishes free from uneven wall thicknesses to be produced by incorporating the composite structure by the 1st and 2nd lubricants having the respectively specific viscosities and thicknesses for the lubricant to be applied on the inside surface of hollow billets.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of, for example, extruding a stainless steel pipe by a hollow billet blank 4, a die 22 and die chip 23 are integrally set to one end of a container 1. A glass pad 5 is provided to the upper part of the die and the glass lubricant which is of viscosity above 90 poises at the extrusion temperature and is fine powder at room temperature is coated to a thickness of 50 to 150μ on the inside surface of the billet 4. At the time when glass melt film is deposited on the outside surface by preheating this billet, the similar film also deposits on the inside surface but the lubricant which is of viscosity below 1.0 poise at the extrusion temperature is coated by a spoon or ghe like to a thickness of 0.5 to 1.5mm on the inside surface as well. The billet 4 having been treated in this way is loaded into the container 1 and a mandrel 8 is inserted in through-form into the central hole, thence the trailing end of the billet 4 is extruded by a stem 7 via pressing platen 16.
