Abstract
PURPOSE:To efficiently refine molten steel in a vacuum degassing vessel, by regulating the quantity of blown oxygen to control the vacuum pressure below a prescribed level when decarburizing the molten steel. CONSTITUTION:The vacuum degassing vessel 1 is provided with a vacuum pressure gauge 2. The pressure in the vessel 1 is introduced into a controller 3. A flow control valve 5 installed in an oxygen blowing pipe 4 is regulated by the output of the controller 3. The vacuum pressure is set at 400 Torr or less to obtain a high decarburization efficiency. Necessary quantities of oxygen, coolant and temprature raising agent are calculated from the carbon content and temperature of the molten steel not yet treated, those of the molten steel on a command point and desired decarburization efficiency and temperature raising efficiency to decarburize the molten steel under a vacuum. The fall in the temperature of the molten steel is compensated by the decarburizing reaction. Therefore, the molten steel is efficiently refined.
