Abstract

PURPOSE: To attenuate the light propagating through clad layer and resin layer to prevent it from superposing on the optical signal transmitted through the core part, by mixing the substance to attenuate the light into the resin layer of an optical fiber for optical transmission consisting of core part, clad layer and resin layer.
CONSTITUTION: A clad layer 32 is provided on the outer circumference of a core part 31, and a silicone resin layer 33 is coated on the outer circumference of the former. Supposing the refractive index of core part 31 to be n1, the refractive indoex of clad layer 32 to be n2, and the refractive index of silicone resin layer 33 to be n3, these are in the relation of n1>n2>n3. A light scattering body 34 made of Al fine powder, for instance, is mixed in the silicone resin layer 33. By this light scattering body, the light passing through the clad layer 32 and resin layer 33 is scattered and attenuated so as to reduce the quantity of light to be superposed on the optical signal originally propagating through the core part. As a result, the fidelity of the optical signal transmission may be increased.
