Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable scum to be perfectly removed without flowing out coolant by letting a scum-collecting trough be floated on the liquid surface in a coolant tank by the float connected to the trough and letting it automatically follow up liquid level fluctuations.
CONSTITUTION: A scum collecting trough 8 consists of a torus body of approximately V-shape in section having slant faces of about 10 to 30° and is supported by a frame 9. The trough 8 is floated on liquid surface L by the main float 10 of circular cylindrical shape in section connected to the inside circumference of the trough 8. The scum mixed in coolant 22, entered the coolant tank 1 and being afloat on the liquid surface L is naturally collected in the trough 8 from its entire circumference. The bubble-form scum near the trough 8 is disintegrated and settled by the water being sprayed from the nozzles 19 above the trough 8 and is at the same time flowed together with water into the trough 8. Further it flows into a scum discharge pipe 13 and is discharged to the outside of the coolant tank 1.
