Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain optically active substances of title esters useful as raw materials of synthetic sweetener, etc., by reacting recemic amino acid esters with specific dipeptide derivatives to form precipitates with only one enantiomer of said esters.
CONSTITUTION: Racemic amino acid esters are reacted with optically active dipeptide derivatives of formula (X is benzyloxycarbonyl; R is lower alkyl) in a solution. In the two enantiomers of racemic amino acid esters, only the enantiomer which has enantiomeric relationship to the compounds of formula reacts to form an adduct and precipitates. The amount of the optically resolving agents is preferably in a ratio of 0.1-5 equivalents based on said racematers. the amount used is adjusted depending upon which of both enantiomers remaining in a precipitate or a solution is desired to have higher optical purity.
