Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare methacrylonitrile economically, in an industrial scale and in high selectivity, by the catalytic ammoxydation of tert-butanol at high temperature in vapor phase in the presence of a specific multiple acceleration oxide catalyst having high activity and selectivity and excellent long term-stability and abrasion resistance.
CONSTITUTION: Methacrylonitrile is prepared by reacting tert-butanol with ammonia and oxygen in vapor phase at high temperature in the presence of a catalyst of the composition I { A is K, Rb and/or Cs; a, b, f, n, p and q are atomic ratios of the components on the basis of Mo; a is 0.002W0.06; b is a number expressed by the equation II [ X and Y are numbers in the quadrilateral with four apexes of the coordinates, (0.45, 0.35), (0.45, 0.65), (0.85, 0.50) and (0.85, 0.65)], f by the equation III and n by the equation IV; z is 0W0.6; p is 0W-0.2; q is the atomic number of Q,equivalent to the atomic valence of the elements in the catalyst } carried on 30W70 wt.%. of silica.
