Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain methacrylonitrile in high yield industrially advantageously, by catalytically reacting isobutene with molecular oxygen and NH3 in the vapor phase in the presence of a molybdenum-bismutch-antimony catalyst having improved catalytic activity.
CONSTITUTION: Isobutene is catalytically reacted with molecular oxygen and NH3 in the vapor pahse in the presence of a catalyst of the formula Mo12BiaSbbNicPdAe Of (A is Na, K, Rb or Cs; a, b, c, d, e and f are atomic ratios of elements when the number of Mo atoms is 12; a is 3W15; b is 2W15; c is 1W10; d is 0W5; e is 0.3W5; f is a number corresponding to the oxide formed by the combination of the elements), at 400W900°C for 0.5W50hr to give the objective compound with a high operating efficiency and reduced dependence on reaction temperature without requiring an expensive element as a catalyst.
