Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for organic chemicals or high polymer products in high yield and economically and advantageously, by reacting tertiary butanol with methanol, O2 and NH3 in the presence of a metallic oxide catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Tertiary butanol is subjected to catalytic ammoxidation with methanol, O2 and NH3 in the presence of a metallic oxide catalyst, e.g. consisting of molybdenum, bismuth and antimony, preferably the formula Mo12BiaSbbNicPdAeOf (A is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Na, K, Rb and Cs; b, c, d and e represent atomic ratios; a and b are 1W15; c is 0W10; d and e are 0W 5; f is a number corresponding to the oxide formed on combination of the components in the case of Mo12) at 350W500°C in the high-temperature vapor phase to give the aimed substance. The production of methacrylic resins can be carried out smoothly without decrease in the amount of hydrocyanic acid as a by-product.
