Abstract
PURPOSE: To protect a long transport pipe system from clogging or choking, by introducing compressed air from the outside to the portion of the pipe system where density of material flow in the pipe system is lower than a certain level.
CONSTITUTION: Transport pipe 1 is used for conveying granular material 4 from pressure tank 2 to silo 3. By-pass pipe 7 is provided for introducing compressed air from air source 5 via "clogging" removing valve 8 into pipe 1. This by-pass pipe 7 is provided along the portion A of pipe 1 where stagnation or clogging of material is likely to take place, and it is equipped with inlet pipes 9 disposed with suitable spacing from pipe 1 for introducing compressed air into pipe 1. In such an pipe system arranged as above, when the system is operated with a small air flow rate under the state that by-pass pipe 7 is not used with its valve 8 being closed, a plug flow is developed at the portion A of pipe 1 since transport pressure is high and transport speed is low there. At the portion B of pipe 1, on the other hand, material flows satisfactorily since transport speed is high. Under such circumstances, if clogging of pipe 1 is caused instantaneously due to change in transport pressure or air flow rate, valve 8 is opened to remove clogging of pipe 1.
