Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent vitrification in the component region of combustion ash adhered to the surface of catalyst during the usual operation period by previously coating the surface of a noble metal catalyst with 1W100g (per 1 liter of the catalyst) of TiO2.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of a noble metal catalyst supported on a corrier is beforehand coated with 1W100g (per 1 liter of catalyst) of TiO2. The preferred amount of TiO2 to be coated is 1W30g/liter of catalyst. For example, 1.6g/liter of platinum is adhered to the surface of a monolithic carrier made of a cordierite 25.4mm in diameter and 50mm long, having 48 hexagonal holes/cm2 and a catalyst volume of 24ml, and the catalyst thus obtained is dipped in a titanium trichloride aqueous solution and then baked to obtain the catalyst coated with 50g/liter of TiO2. Instead of the platinum, 1.2g/liter of a 10:1 mixture of platinum and rhodium may be adhered to the catalyst.
