Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an automatic measuring and compensating device which is not influenced by dimensional variations occurring in a reference gauge, by measuring two points on the inner or outer diameter of the reference gauge, and determining on the basis of the measured values a variation in the center line of a main shaft, which is caused by a thermal displacement thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A symbol 0 denotes the center line of a main shaft in a case where a thermal displacement of the axis of the main shaft is zero. An absolute value detector is set to output zero when the tip of a bit is on the center line. A symbol 0' denotes the center line of the main shaft in a case where a thermal displacement C of axis of the main shaft occurs, and the mentioned center line agrees with the center line of a gauge 42. A symbol (a) denotes on output value of the absolute value detector read out at an instance at which a contact signal TS1A is generated at a point P3 when a contact needle is brought into contact with the reference gauge 42, and a symbol (b) a value at a point P5. A thermal displacement (c) is operated on the basis of the values (a), (b), and this thermal displacement (c) is added to the output value of the absolute value detector.
