PURPOSE:To improve the resolution of a solid-state pickup unit with picture elements shifted spatially, by preventing a color shift by performing separation and composition in a fixed method. CONSTITUTION:Once the outputs of two pickup elements arranged with picture elements shifted spatially are supplied to terminals 11 and 16 respectively, a red signal and blue signal appear at the output of amplifier 26 when amplifier 25 outputs a green signal. Therefore, the green signal appears at output 27a of switching unit 27, and the red and blue signals appear at output 27b alternately. The signals of this output 27b are divided into a signal into two; one passes through delay line 28 providing time delay equivalent to one sample period and the other never passes through it and the both are mixed by mixer 29. Next, the output of mixer 29 is sampled by sampling circuits 30 and 31 and separated into the red and blue signals. Thus, the green signal, and red and blue signals can be obtained which cause no vertical shift spatially. Consequently, the resolution can be improved.
