Abstract

PURPOSE: A bacterium producing adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP) by assimilating methanol is cultured in a medium containing methanol or other chemical sustances passing the same metabolic route as that of methanol and inorganic phosphate salts to accumulate the high concentration of ATP.
CONSTITUTION: A bacterium assimilating methanol to produce ATP belonging to Methylomonas, Pseudomonus or Methanomonas is provided, for example, Methylomonas probus (FERM-P3193). The bacterium is cultured in a medium containing methanol or chemical substances passing the same metabolic route as that of methanol such as methylamine as a carbon source and inorganic phosphate salts in an amount of 4W35g/l as PO4. The culture is effected at 5.8W9.0 pH and a temperature of 15W50°C under passing air of 0.5W4.0 v.v. M. (air l/ culture medium l/min) with stirring of 40W600rpm to accumulate 2W12 (γ/l). Then, the APT formed is separated by a known method.
