Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove noxious substance and prevent the discharging of substance capable of generatning secondary environmental pollution outside the system by a method wherein cooled exhaust gas containing NOx is oxidized by means of an oxidation catalyst layer into which activated carbon is mixed, and the activated carbon after the oxidation is washed by a sulfite water solution.
CONSTITUTION: Air is mixed into a gas current containing NOx, the gas is cooled at a temperature lower than 45°C, the cooled gas is passed through a catalyst layer into which the activated carbon of not more than 30% moisture content is mixed, and the NOx is adsorbed as NO2. The activated carbon is washed by a sulfite water solution of not less than 15% concentration, the NO2 is reduced to N2, and the activated carbon is regenerated. For example, desulfurized exhaust gas 1 is mixed with air from a conduit 3, sent in from an oxidation tower 4, and oxidized to the NO2 on an activated carbon layer 8. The activated carbon layer 8 adsorbing the NO2 is washed by a reductant water solution from a conduit 9, and a waste liquid of washing is forwarded to a vessel 11 from a conduit 10. The washings are recirculated by means of a pump 5 and the conduit 9.
