Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the effect of sealing a catalyzer in a device, by press holding a seal ring for partially enclosing the catalyzer to the exhaust gas inlet portion of a catalytic converter for cleaning the exhaust gas. CONSTITUTION:A catalytic converter 5 consists of two halves of shells 71, 72 which hold a catalyzer carrier 6 and two halves of protecting covers 16, 17 arranged with a construction of space around the periphery of said shells. Into both end parts of the both shells and covers, an exhaust pipe 2 is inserted. To between the catalyzer carrier 6 and the shells 71, 72, a wire mesh 12 is inserted to protect the catalyzer from vibration. While in front of the catalyzer 6, a flow smoothing chamber 9 is formed simultaneously with a protrusively arranged tapered seal ring 24 in said chamber 9. Further the other end of said ring 24 is arranged intruding to beween the catalyzer 6 and the mesh 12 thus to prevent a leakage of the exhaust gas into the mesh 12.
