Abstract

PURPOSE: The juice obtained by sqeezing plants belonging to aloes or aloe extract is purified by specified procedures to produce a white substance with antiulcerative activity which is free from odor bitter taste and shows no side-effects.
CONSTITUTION: The juice obtained by squeezing aloe or extract is combined with a water-soluble solvent such as ethanol to form a solution. The solution is allowed to stand and form a white precipitate free from anthraquinones. The precipitate is incorporated to water and subjected to dialysis using a cellophan tube with resulting in the removal of high-molecular-weight substances thereform to give a fraction which is free from the color, oder and bitterness characteristic in aloe and shows white color, no taste and odor and high solublity in water. Since the fraction has antiulcerative activity but does not contain anthraquinones with cathartic activity, it can be administered to a pregnant woman. The fraction may be further purified by used of ion-exchange resins and others.
