Abstract
PURPOSE:To contrive the improvement of the spalling resistance and the abrasion resistance, by overlay welding the self-hardening weld metal of specified hardness on the drum surface of the iron roll, and further, by overlaying the metallizing metal of self-melting alloy on above stated overlay weld metal. CONSTITUTION:The weld metal of good self-hardening property is overlaid to thickness C on the drum surface of the iron roll of thickness B, so as to give the hardness H3 stated below. Next, upon this layer, the metallizing metal of self- melting alloy is overlaid to thickness A. That is, H3>H1+(H2-H1)X1/3, in which H3 is for the hardness (Hs) of the overlay weld metal layer, H1 is for the hardness of the parent metal, and H2 is for the hardness of the metallized layer of self-melting type alloy and H2 is higher than H250. Besides, as for the self-melting alloy, the Ni or Co base alloy is employed, and the thickness A is specified to 4mm. or less, about 2mm. being suitable for the practical purpose. As for the self-hardening metal, the metal, being possible to obtain the desired hardness, even if it receives the heat from the thermal cycle (heat of fusing period and heat of annealing at cooling process) at carrying out the overlay metallizing with the self-melting alloy, is used.
